Sony Ericsson Xperia pro review - Part 1 - The Hardware of Xperia pro

Hello, this is my first review and since i like my Sony Ericsson Xperia pro so much, I'd like to make a review about it as the beginning of my blog. I will focus later on about technologies, computers. mobile phones, websites and somehow about cars too.


Lets get back to the topic and lets start.. First, I have the black Xperia pro and i have it now for 20 days. So I'm still learning.
A brief about the phone in general, in just one word, PERFECT.


And a note before i start, this is my first Android experience (But not new to Sony Ericsson) and I'm still getting used to it and I'm loving it so far. So i might mention some silly points about how good is Android but this review is just for the people who loves the phone and new to Android. (and for everyone else of course..)




Anyways, lets get started. I will divide the review into parts and each part will talk about something about the phone.


The first thing I'm going to talk about is the phone itself and the hardware.


Starting with the back cover, it is plastic and feels plastic but it feels great at the same time. Although it feels shaky somehow on the top. It is annoying but you will just feel its normal after some time. The curve of the back cover is perfect, you will feel comfortable when you type with the keyboard with this curve. Negative thing, the cover will leave your fingerprints marks on it easily.


The screen is great. Bright. You can choose if you want the brightness to be auto set by itself or you just choose the brightness level that you want. But it is suggested to keep it in auto, as you would never feel if the brightness level has changed. Under the sunlight the screen is Very good and i can see the screen clear with no problems.


The keyboard is just really well designed. I'm writing this review from the phone. It is really easy to type and you will learn it fast and you will start typing fast even without looking at the keyboard. And the keyboard is very clear and nice at night.


Back, Home and Menu buttons are nice. No problems with them. The LED lights between the buttons are nice and clear white.


Back camera (or main camera), 8.1 megapixel and HD video recording is just a perfect camera. Photos are so clear and the HD video recording is really HD and so clear. And the sound of the video is perfect, thanks to the secondary back mic where when you record a video, that mic will take the sound from it. 
Exmor R is doing great job at dark conditions, you can see everything somehow clear on the camera.
Two annoying things about the camera, one is the button, its small and its position is wrong. And the position of the camera itself. Sometimes you hide the camera by your finger by mistake. Would be better if the camera was just in the middle just like the Neo. But you can overcome these issue by touching the screen to capture photos and hold the phone in a way that you can avoid your finger to cover the camera.
The features of the camera is that you can capture 3D photos (in Android version 2.3.4), and it's doing great job. There are face and smile detection and the the video recording has continuous auto-focus and it's fast. Panorama photos are perfect too, but make sure the lighting condition is good else the picture will not be that clear.
The LED flash is good and its bright too, it lights up the dark room.


Front camera is VGA and its a normal VGA camera. You can use it for video calls over Google Talk and Skype but not the regular video calling. Because its an Android thing where they don't support this type of video calling. Not sure why though. You can use the camera also to capture pictures. Picture quality is OK.


The position of the USB port is somehow annoying too. It can be placed in better place but looks like they ran out of places and they just put it on the top. Thanks to the L shaped USB cable where when you use the keyboard with the charger on, you will not feel it's placed in a wrong position.


Power button and audio level control buttons are placed in a perfect position and i had no issues with them at all.


The speaker is disappointing. The quality is average but it is loud when you play music. But when watching video or play games it is very good and loud too. Using the speaker on calls is below average but again it is loud too. So i would call this is a downside about the Xperia pro. But the good thing that it's loud, like VERY loud.


The mic is perfectly perfect and the listener have a very crystal clear voice from you. Again thanks to the secondary mic in the back where it cancels all the noises around you.


The notification LED is right above the HDMI port, its nice, colorful, there are some kind of applications where you can choose the color of the light for whatever thing you want.


I guess this is it for the hardware.
I might wrote some negative points but we have all to be honest, some people might regret buying something because they have some kind of issues, so that is why I like to mention every positive and negative thing. And the negatives that i mentioned don't really bother me at all. I'm loving this phone and I'm really glad that i have it.
